EBRD Community Initiative

Chateau Status*

The EBRD Community Initiative was set up in September 2016 to promote philanthropic and charitable activities in countries where the Bank operates.

The Community Initiative:
• supports staff fundraising efforts by matching their financial contributions to charities of their choice in countries where the Bank operates;
• provides targeted contributions to charitable and philanthropic projects in countries where the Bank operates on the occasion of the EBRD Annual Meetings.

This year, the EBRD Community Initiative will provide a targeted contribution to the charitable organisation PeacePlayers Cyprus (PPI-Cyprus), based in the buffer zone in Nicosia. By means of basketball tournaments and related training programmes, it enables 8 to 18 year old Turkish- Cypriot and Greek-Cypriot boys and girls to learn and play together, helping to reverse prejudices in segregated communities. The charity also promotes social inclusion and female empowerment, working with local schools and civil society organisations to engage parents and other members of local communities. The donation by the EBRD Community Initiative will enable the PPI-Cyprus to increase the number of children involved in the initiative, build the relationship of trust and encourage them to act as “agents of change” in their local communities.

The event is open to all Annual Meeting participants. However, we would like to emphasise that only participants who have registered beforehand will be allowed access to the event. Please ensure you collect your Annual Meeting badge from the Filoxenia Conference Centre before the event.

*Chateau Status is located in the buffer zone controlled by the UN.
